Egret, Novato Flats

Technical Information

  • Title: Egret, Novato Flats. This is an original work of art, a painting made of wood.
  • Cabinet measurements: click for linked PDF file.
  • Installation instructions:

It is recommended that the installation be professionally done. The cabinet may be installed at eye level, at about the same height as a painting. Attach to a flat, sturdy, plumb wall, or similar surface, using 4″ screws attached through the integral frame at the top back of the cabinet. Make sure the cabinet is level and plumb. There are I/8″ scribe-strips on the back edge of the sides, to compensate for any minor deviations in the surface of the wall. It is important that the cabinet be installed without twisting, as that will disturb the clean action of the door hinge mechanism.

There are two 2″ holes in the bottom shelf of the cabinet to allow air circulation, and to allow the power cord, signal, and audio wires to be run from a power source, modem and external speakers location.

Optionally, an in-wall electrical power and wiring connection box can be used to connect the electrical and signal wires inside the wall from a remote location—like a cabinet or shelves below the cabinet. This method is recommended, as wires running outside the wall, instead of inside it, will be somewhat unsightly. Running the wires inside the wall should be done by a professional electrician. The electrical box inside the cabinet should be mounted in the cabinet after the cabinet is installed, not installed in the wall before the cabinet is mounted. The example shown is from Best Buy, and costs $80. (Not included with cabinet.)

After establishing the desired height of the cabinet, the (included) “french cleat” should be leveled, and nailed to the wall, its top edge placed at 1 1/4″ below the intended height of the top surface of the cabinet.

After hanging the cabinet on the french cleat, permanent fasteners must be driven through the frame member at the top back of the cabinet, into wall studs. Two 4″ screws are included for that purpose.

Once the cabinet is securely mounted, the doors may need to be adjusted to close cleanly and evenly. All the hinges in the doors are adjustable. Once these adjustments are made, the hinges connecting the doors to the cabinet sides should have their third attachment hole drilled (3/32″) and screwed.

The television, with its stock base, can simply be placed inside the cabinet. Alternatively, the television can be mounted on an articulating bracket, mounted to the back of the cabinet. (Bracket not included) There are many different styles of brackets available. If such a bracket is used, it will need to be bolted securely through the back of the cabinet, and into wall studs or other sturdy support.
